Informal Pre-COP Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change (Pre-COP)
Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Singapore’s Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, attended the Pre- COP in Krakow, Poland from 23 - 24 October 2018. Participating Ministers and representatives discussed the upcoming UNFCCC COP-24 meeting outcomes, including the guidelines for the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
Asia Clean Energy Summit
At the Asia Clean Energy Summit on 31 October 2018, Mr Masagos Zulkifli shared key developments in Singapore’s clean energy space – such as how recent investments are expected to generate around 1,000 jobs and S$180m in annual business spending over the next 5 years; and the launch of a Request for Information for a 100 Megawatt peak commercial floating solar photovoltaic (PV) system at the Kranji Reservoir.
Energy Efficiency National Partnership (EENP) Awards
Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for the Environment and Water Resources, presented the EENP Awards to 15 recipients on 11 October 2018, for their achievements in energy efficiency. The Energy Efficiency Opportunities Assessor Certification scheme was also launched at the ceremony, to encourage aspiring and practising engineers to build a career in energy efficiency.
Marina Barrage 10th Anniversary Celebrations
The Marina Barrage, an iconic fixture in Singapore’s Water Story, concluded its year-long 10th anniversary celebrations with a carnival from 26 - 28 October 2018. In the past decade, the Marina Barrage has been instrumental in alleviating floods in low-lying city areas, and strengthening Singapore’s water supply. Mr Teo Chee Hean, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, was at the celebrations, where he spoke on the 3Ps of water security – Planning, Public Support, and Partnerships.
