Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu to participate in the preparatory meeting of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework on Climate Change in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Singapore, 2 October 2022 – Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Ms Grace Fu, will participate in the preparatory meeting of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations (UN) Framework on Climate Change (PreCOP-27) in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), from 3 to 4 October 2022. Minister Fu will also make a working visit to the Republic of South Africa from 5 to 7 October 2022.
2 Minister’s participation in the PreCOP-27 is at the joint invitation of DRC Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development Ève Bazaiba and Egypt COP-27 President-designate and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry. At the meeting, participating Ministers and representatives from a select group of countries will exchange views and discuss key issues, such as adaptation, loss and damage, mitigation, and scaling up accessible finance, ahead of COP27, which will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, in November 2022. Minister Fu will share Singapore’s perspectives on these key issues and suggest ways to advance the discussions ahead of COP-27.
3 While in Johannesburg and Pretoria, Minister Fu will have bilateral meetings with her South African counterparts and academics to exchange views on climate change, sustainability, environment, food, and water issues.
4 Minister Fu will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment and the National Climate Change Secretariat, Prime Minister’s Office.
