Written Reply to Parliamentary Question on Funerary Industry Landscape Study by Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment
Mr Yip Hon Weng: To ask the Minister for Sustainability and the Environment (a) whether she can provide an update on the status of the landscape study being conducted on the funeral services industry; (b) what is the timeline for further updates on the proposed steps and regulations aimed at improving service standards in the industry; and (c) given the demographic challenges posed by an ageing population, what actions is the Ministry taking to expedite the results of the study and the implementation of related policies.
Answer:
1 The Funerary Industry Landscape Study commissioned by the National Environment Agency (NEA) was completed in 2022. NEA is reviewing the study report and will share the key findings and recommendations with key stakeholders, when ready. The outcomes of the study will enable NEA to better engage and collaborate with the Association of Funeral Directors Singapore and the funeral industry on initiatives to uplift the industry standards.
